Showtime’s Penny Dreadful Gets New Cast Members

Showtime’s latest project, Penny Dreadful, has announced additional casting news. The show, which is described as a “psychosexual horror series,” has already announced Josh Hartnett and Eva Green will be starring in the series.

Joining Hartnett and Green will be former Doctor Who star Billie Piper, as well as Helen McCrory, Timothy Dalton, Reeve Carney, Rory Kinnear, and Harry Treadaway. The will depict literary monsters, including Frankenstein’s Monster, Count Dracula, and Dorian Grey, as they attempt to navigate life in Victorian London while dealing with their particular monstrosities. Carney will portray Dorian Grey, while Treadaway is set to portray Victor Frankenstein.


The series will be shooting in Dublin, Ireland, and filming is expected to begin in October of 2013, lasting for five months.  John Logan (who most recently wrote Skyfall), Sam Mendes (who directed Skyfall), and Pippa Harris will be executive producers on the project. As of now, Penny Dreadful is expected to begin airing in 2014, although an exact date has yet to be announced.
