Sony approaches Adam McKay for Ennis’ “The Boys”

Sony Pictures is in discussion with director/producer Adam McKay to direct a big screen adaptation of Garth Ennis’ comic book series The Boys.

According to Collider.com, Samuel Bayer, who helmed the A Nightmare on Elm Street remake, said a few months ago that he was interested in directing a film based on the comic book series. However, he also said that Sony was seeking the Anchorman director for the job. The Boys is a comic book series focused on “a superpowered CIA squad” in a modern world where many people have superpowers and some tend to get unruly. The series was created by Garth Ennis (writer) and Darick Robertson (illustrator).

McKay has wanted to direct a comic book-based film for a long time. However, if this does happen, it might not exactly work for the better seeing as McKay is a seasoned comedy director who has never dabbled in anything like The Boys, which is a gory comic series that is filled with coarse content. Such is the case with all of Ennis' work, which explains why if this film were to happen, it would be the first Ennis comic to make it to the big screen. Ennis is also responsible for Preacher and Crossed, both of which have had film plans enter development hell.
