Stephen King and Nikolaj Arcel confirm King’s Dark Tower will be coming to theaters

After many attempts, a film resume of Stephen King’s Dark Tower is officially beginning production with Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey confirmed to star, according to Entertainment Weekly. Idris Elba has signed on as the gunslinger and McConaughey as his foe, the man in black. Director and co-writer Nikolaj Arcel, spoke exclusively with Entertainment Weekly about his plan to adapt the eight novel, six shooter and sorcery tale for the screen. “What Stephen King does best is mixing the everyday, of what you might call the mundane, with the fantastical.” says Arcel. “In my view (The Dark Tower) novels are a mix between sci-fi fantasy and modern times. That exotic mix is so Stephen King.” King went on to reveal that the Dark Tower will open with the famous first line of the book, "The man in black fled across the desert and the gunslinger followed." But the film itself will jump into the middle of the story instead of beginning with the first book. “[The movie] starts in media res, in the middle of the story instead of at the beginning.” King says. “Which may upset some of the fans a little bit, but they’ll get behind it, because it is the story.” Arcel, best known for the 2012 Danish film, A Royal Affair, and co-writing the Swedish version of The Girl with Dragon Tattoo, states he will start shooting the film in South Africa in seven weeks with Sony Pictures planning to have in theaters, January 13, 2017.
