Supergirl Casts its Superman
With the
announcement two weeks ago that the CW's
Supergirl would be bringing Superman into the fold this season, the TV world has been abuzz with speculation on who would be taking over the mantle of the Man of Steel. Well, wait no longer. The CW has announced that Tyler Hoechlin (MTV's
Teen Wolf) will be taking on the role of Clark Kent when
Supergirl makes its debut on the network this fall.
Supergirl executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said of the casting, "Greg [Berlanti] and I have wanted to work with Tyler for ages, so this worked out perfectly because Tyler is Superman. We are so thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of this iconic character."
Little is known about what brings Clark to visit his cousin, but considering that the series spent a great deal of time talking about Superman without ever explaining in depth why he couldn't just show up and help Supergirl when she needed it, this move is a good one for the series. While Melissa Benoist has been great as Kara Danvers, it makes sense to fully integrate Superman into this world- especially if the CW DC universe ever pulls the trigger on the Justice League teases they have been throwing (despite the
Supergirl series taking place in the Earth II universe, I have no doubt a Justice League is coming at some point).
