The Walking Dead Adds New Cast Member

The Walking Dead
, which begins production on its highly anticipated fourth season next month, has announced a new cast member for the upcoming season. Lawrence Gilliard, Jr., a television veteran who is best known for his work as D'Angelo Barksdale on The Wire, will be joining the cast in the role of Bob Stookey.

Stookey, according to the character breakdown, is "a former Army medic who is deeply haunted by his past -- both before and after the apocalypse. He's a loner, though he maintains a charming yet self-deprecating façade." Early reports were that the character was to be called “Roy Stark,” leading to speculation as to which character from the comic would be joining the cast. However, with this announcement, fans of the comic (and fans of the show) can officially begin anticipating what sort of trouble Stookey will get into with the Grimes Gang.

Gilliard joins fellow Wire alums Chad Coleman (Tyrese), Emily Kinney (Beth), and Sonequa Martin-Green (Sasha) as the show’s newest regular cast members - helping to replace those lost throughout last season. The fourth season of The Walking Dead, and the first under the purview of new showrunner Scott Gimple, is set to begin airing on AMC this October.
