The Tick Receives Pilot Order; Original Cast Not Returning

"Spoooooon!"
The Tick is making his triumphant return. Amazon has issued a pilot order for a new series based on the Ben Edlund character, who starred in a 1994 animated series and a short-lived live-action series in 2001—both created by Edlund. Edlund (Gotham, Revolution) will be on writing and producing duties for the revival, and will be joined by Barry Josephson, himself a producer on the previous live-action series. However, this new take on the Tick will have a completely different cast. Despite campaigning for the series to come back for years, Patrick Warburton will not be returning as the Tick (presumably due to his commitment to NBC’s Crowded). No news on who will replace him yet, but Vinyl’s Griffin Newman is set to play the Tick’s sidekick, Arthur Everest, and House of Lies’ Valorie Curry has been cast as Arthur’s sister, Dot. He ends up re-teaming with Arthur to fight evil. Newman’s Arthur, played in the Fox series by David Burke, had been labeled as a schizophrenic because of his statements that evil plans to rule the city, and no one believes him until he runs into Tick. Curry’s Dot Everest is a nurse who loves her brother Arthur to death and worries about him.” As a fan of both of the Tick’s previous forays into the TV realm (though I watched them about eight years ago), this is really exciting news. Warburton obviously brought a lot to the show, but Edlund’s involvement makes me confident that it will be something special. Final note: Wally Pfister, director of photography for the Dark Knight film series, is in negotiations to direct the pilot. Too cool.
