Trailer Tracker: The Green Hornet, latest Narnia film and more

It’s that time of the week!  That’s right, time for Trailer Tracker where we at Player Affinity brave the bleak and foreboding world of the internet searching for the newest trailers. This week, we get a first look at the anticipated comic book adaptation The Green Hornet, voyage with the Dawn Treader to Narnia for a third time, check out the high concept Tomorrow, When the War Began from Australia and finally show Conviction with the new drama starring Sam Rockwell and Hillary Swank.

The Green Hornet

Following delays and re-shoots, the trailer for The Green Hornet starring Seth Rogen as Britt Reid, along with Cameron Diaz, Tom Wilkinson, Christoph Waltz and Edward Furlong is finally here. If any recent news about this film piqued my curiosity it was the casting of Waltz as the villain because if he can bring even an iota of the slimy charisma to the screen as he did in Inglorious Basterds this could be an early year hit.  The trailers certainly look flashy and entertaining and interspersed with a song from band Cyprus Hill this first look got my blood pumping.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader

The last “Narnia” film was a bit of a low-key disaster for Disney and Walden Media at the box office so now Fox has the creative reigns for the third C.S. Lewis adaptation in the beloved series. I was not the biggest fan of the first two films but thanks to some impressive action set pieces the plot moved along sufficiently, “Dawn Treader” looks to be the most low-key yet so hopefully the dramatic elements are compelling enough to inflate the proceedings.

Tomorrow, When the War Began

In this fictitious tale, a group of friends find their country invaded by a foreign power and decide they must fight back to defend their home. This is Stuart Beattie’s directorial debut but you need not look much further than his screen writing filmography with titles like Collateral and the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy to his name to see the potential. This is an adaptation in the first of seven novels in a series by author John Marsden, a hit series in Australia.  If this resonates with audiences domestically is another story entirely.

Conviction

Sniff, sniff.  Do you smell that?  Smell’s like Oscar bait. Sam Rockwell (who looks freakishly similar to Jesse James in some scenes), Hilary Swank, Minnie Driver and Melisa Leo star in a true story about Betty Anne Waters (Swank) who dedicates her life to freeing her wrongfully imprisoned brother from jail. While the trailer certainly has that somewhat pretentious vibe, Rockwell looks incredible and you have got to have faith in the strong cast.
