The Walking Dead Spin-Off Gets a Location
After several weeks of small hints and casting announcements, AMC's upcoming Walking Dead
spin-off series has found its setting. While the original series continues to toil away in Georgia, the spin-off will take a bite out of Hollywood, with the series set in Los Angeles.
Very little is still known about the series, save for the casting of three of the show's central characters: New Zealander Cliff Curtis as the show's male lead, Brit Frank Dillane as the son of the show's as-yet-uncast female lead, and Aussie Alycia Debnam Carey as Dillane's character's sister. The series, which will be written by Walking Dead
veteran Dave Erickson and Walking Dead
creator Robert Kirkman, is expected to take place at the start of the zombie apocalypse, perhaps focusing on a situation wherein surviving humans outnumber the walkers (the opposite of the Walking Dead
mothership, where humans are certainly an endangered species).
The currently unnamed series is expected to begin shooting in 2015, and while the show may be set in Los Angeles, it is very possible the series will not choose to shoot there as well. However, the original series currently shoots on location in Georgia, so an L.A. based series is certainly possible as well. No premiere date has been announced for the series.
