WWE ’13 Coverboy and Trailer Revealed

Despite THQ's recent financial struggles, one of their big annual franchises will return back this fall. WWE '13 is the latest game featuring the popular sports entertainment company and is set to release on October 30 for all current consoles. The trailer was leaked late last week, which you can see below, but the cover for the game was revealed last night during a promo segment on WWE's own Monday Night Raw television program. Even though wrestling fans like me got a kick out of Executive Vice President of Talent & Relations John Laurinaitis revealing his version of the box art for the game, current WWE Champion CM Punk came into the ring to reveal the real box art and that he is the coverboy of the new iteration. If my memory is right, this is actually the first time in the WWE's history that the coverboy of their game has been announced during their programming.

THQ and longtime franchise developer Yuke's are hoping to fix what was wrong with last year's game along with making improvements to WWE '13 since they are marketing this as a "revolution." Their predator technology that was introduced last year is back and has been improved with new animations and controls. WWE Universe mode also makes a return with some tweaks along with their popular create and share options that were significantly revamped in last year's game.

What is completely new to WWE '13 is a WWE Attitude mode. No, this is not a version of Acclaim's Attitude game back in the Playstation/Nintendo 64 generation. Instead, this is a new single player campaign focused on the Attitude era of the late 90s to early 2000s, and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin is one of the superstars playable in that mode. I'm personally curious how this mode will play out considering how that era was a great time to be a wrestling fan. The current superstars that are confirmed so far in WWE '13 are CM Punk, current World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus, Chris Jericho, Big Show, Mark Henry, Undertaker, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and Mick Foley, with more to be revealed in the upcoming months.

WWE '13 is currently slated for a October 30 release on the Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and the Wii.
