Xfire Sold To Titan Gaming

It was announced late yesterday that social gaming network, Xfire, who has around 16 million users, was sold to Titan Gaming. Xfire is a community built around a match-making client that supports hundreds of games, being one of the first to feature a in-game chat overlay system compatible with most games. The development team responsible for the client and community has left as well, according to information posted on their homepage.

"August 2, 2010—Xfire has been purchased by another company. Most of the team that has brought you Xfire for the last 6 years is leaving, including me. We've enjoyed our time and I personally am sad that I was only able to do 127 releases. Good bye and game on! - Chris"

This seemingly came out of left field, and many are still curious as to what Titan has planned for the future. A press release to Kotaku revealed the following.

"Titan Gaming has purchased Xfire. The terms of the purchase are undisclosed. Titan will be taking on the Xfire name, with a focus towards ongoing innovation in the gaming space. The Xfire services will continue uninterrupted for its users. Xfire redefined how gamers communicate, Titan intends to build upon this tradition and utilize the Xfire platform to help gaming companies better engage and monetize their games."

The forums are ablaze in panic right now, as much is uncertain. Just 2 years ago, Xfire was purchased by Viacom and became a part of MTV Networks Online. Viacom elected to keep the original development team intact, including founder and creator Chris Kirmse. Apparently things were different in the terms of sale this time around. Titan Games is known for creating platforms used in skill based gaming competitions. We'll have more info as it comes to light; stay tuned!
