Armie Hammer Might Star in “The Lone Ranger”

Armie Hammer has become a big name in the industry since starring in David Fincher’s The Social Network just last year. He’s currently filming Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar and is attached to play the prince for Tarsem Singh in The Brothers Grimm: Snow White alongside Julia Roberts and Lily Collins.

Now it seems as if he might be playing Western dress-up with Johnny Depp in Gore Verbinski’s adaptation of The Lone Ranger. Deadline Hollywood relays that Hammer is now in talks to play the titular character in what Verbinski has described as a take on the character's origin story from Tonto's point of view, which makes sense with Depp playing Tonto.

Ryan Gosling was once negotiating to play the Lone Ranger, but such negotiations have since fallen through.

Hammer’s a terrific new talent in Hollywood who’s slowly but surely rising to the top of the heap in regards to younger actors. Starring opposite Depp certainly won’t hurt his résumé and could be the perfect role for him.

How do you feel about Armie Hammer potentially starring in The Lone Ranger?
