Army of Darkness Meets Hack/Slash
A while ago I talked about how
Hack/Slash, after 25 issues with Image Comics, ended with
their "Finale." But the creator of the horror cult favorite Tim Seeley mentioned it wouldn't be the last time we would see
Hack/Slash protagonist Cassie Hack. With this announcement of an
Army of Darkness and
Hack/Slash crossover, Seeley's words ring true. Better yet, the crossover will be written by none other than Seeley himself.
The six issue mini-series known as
Army of Darkness vs. Hack/Slash begins with Cassie Hack trying to have a normal life after the events of
Hack/Slash when she is attacked by a Deadite. However, Cassie isn't joined by
Hack/Slash behemoth Vlad but Ashley J. Williams (a.k.a. Ash of
Evil Dead and
Army of Darkness fame). Now, the two must refrain from killing each other to find stolen pages from the Book of the Dead. The covers for Army of Darkness vs. Hack/Slash will be drawn by Tim Seeley,
Hack/Slash co-creator Stefano Casello, Ben Templesmith and there will be a special cover drawn by Chris Eliopolis.
Seeley is excited to finally have a crossover between the popular horror two franchises.
"Besides being one of the inspirations for Hack/Slash," Seeley said,
"Army of Darkness has long been one of my all-time favorite films... Readers have been asking for Cassie and Ashley J. Williams to meet for as long as I've been making Hack/Slash, and we're finally going to give them what they want. There will be blood, boobs, baseball bats, and boomsticks."
But this isn't the first time Ash has met other popular horror characters. Ash has teamed up with and fought the likes of Marvel Zombies, Danger Girl Abbey Chase, Vampirella and Red Sonja in the pages of
Prophecy, Jason Voorhees and Freddy Krueger and, of course, Obama.
"It's a natural fit, putting Army of Darkness together with the ever-popular Cassie Hack," Nick Barrucci mused.
"And honestly, it's what the fans have asked for! Ash is the Crossover King, that perfect combination of badass and jester which makes for amazing, amusing comic book team-ups. And what better combo could there be, between a splatter movie hero and the ultimate Last Girl?"
Army of Darkness vs. Hack/Slash will be released both in stores and digitally on July 2013 and I'm looking forward to seeing some blood and sugar baby!
