‘Bond 23’ Finds a French Bond Girl, Will Film in Istanbul

Principal photography for Bond 23 is set for November 2011 and seeing that the date is fast approaching, some concrete arrangements still need to be set. For example, what would a "Bond" film be without an international locale and a beautiful woman?

The "Bond Girl" role is one of the most immortalized in cinema and Twitchfilm says it has sources who point to French actress Bérénice Marlohe. If you do not know who Marlohe is, that's okay — you're just not from France, as most of her work has been on French television. She is currently filming a comedy, Un Bonheur narrate Jamais Seul with former Bond girl Sophie Marceau.

This is a sign that the Bond producers and director Sam Mendes wants to continue casting emerging European talent to fill roles rather then big-name stars as with Olga Kurylenko in Quantum of Solace. Seeing that Mendes has a great eye for actors, we should have faith in his casting choice and other French actor in Bond movies have turned out to be great moves for the series.

Bond website mi6-hq.com has also been reporting that producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli have met with officials in Istanbul to grant permission to film in the historic Turkish city. Istanbul has been used as a location before in the Bond series, in From Russia With Love and The World is Not Enough, and it's suspected that the city and surrounding area will be used for the opening sequence.

As well as making Bond’s 50th Anniversary with a popular location, Turkey is an important player on the world stage, an emerging nation like Brazil and South Africa, a member of NATO, a half-way house between Europe and the Middle East and a major link between the West and the Middle East. So considering Bond’s new realistic tone, it makes sense to film in a nation like Turkey. South Africa is set to be the main location for the movie. India has reportedly been dropped this time round.

All the next adventure in the "Bond" saga needs is a title. With word possibly slipping on a major casting decision and a planned start in 1-2 months, expect an official announcement soon.

With the help of Sony, MGM will release Bond 23 on November 9, 2012 and a couple weeks earlier in the UK on October 26, 2012.
