Brand New Lego MMO enters development stages

The Secret World developer Funcom has started development on a new Lego MMO based around the world-wide selling Minifigures toy range.

The toymaker's previous attempt at an MMO was called Lego Universe. Unfortunately though, the Lego game had to close down due to making insufficient amounts of money. The new MMO will become a "prominent part" of the Minifigures experience, stated Funcom. The toy's range of online offerings will increase. The current offerings include Flash games, competitions and a way to track your own Minifigures collection.

According to a statement on Funcom's website, it's focussing on "maximum accessibility" and will design the MMO to be "avaliable to consumers in their online channels". However, no one yet knows whether this MMO will be a full retail launch, or whether it will be free-to-play using a browser-based system.

Funcom boss Trond Arne Aas said "Being able to work with a world-renowned brand such as the Lego brand to develop an MMO for this audience is incredibly exciting to us as game developers and for Funcom as a company." Then went on to say "This is source material we all know and love and we simply cannot wait to get started working with the Lego Group on realizing this exciting project."

We'll have to wait and see, maybe this Lego MMO will put the pieces together right this time around.
