Bruce Willis and Director Len Wiseman to team up again for a ‘Die Hard’ prequel
""Live Free or Die Hard" Director Len Wiseman talks about his new plans for Die Hard prequel."
Bruce Willis has announced he is returning for a sixth installment of the
Die Hard, this time a prequel/sequel entitled "Year One", according to
Collider.com
Director Len Wiseman (
Underworld) stated that after working with Bruce on their previous collaboration,
Live Free or Die Hard, the series’ fourth installment, they spoke about John McClane’s origins, and how they could explore about what made him the man he is.
Wiseman stated, “After doing the fourth one, there were so many conversations that Bruce and I were having about what he put into the character for Die Hard. That character comes with so much baggage, emotionally, and experience. He’s already divorced, he’s bitter; his Captain doesn’t want him back. So who created that guy?”
“We’ve never see the actual love story (between McClane and his wife Holly). We know its demise, but we’ve never seen that it was like when he met Holly, or when he was a beat cop in ’78 in New York, when there was no chance of making him detective.”
As far as when shooting begins, Wiseman says his focus on his upcoming television show
Lucifer has kept "Year One" on a shifting timetable. The search will be underway for an unknown actor to play young John McClane, since Willis is so associated the John McClane character.
“It intercuts in a very fun, imaginative way with present day John McClane…The film itself will take place on New Years’ Eve 1979, so trying to gear things before that would be fun.” Wiseman also says.
There is currently no release date on the new
Die Hard film.
