Comic Con Movies: Scott Pilgrim vs. The World Panel

The Scott Pilgrim vs. The World panel was quite interesting to say the least. It was full of humor and wit, as well as some surprises for a few lucky people attending the panel.

The first one on stage was the film’s director, Edgar Wright, who is most known for his British comedies. As would be expected given his film history, he had lots of humorous things to say during the discussion. For instance, he made the special announcement that “on August 13, Scott Pilgrim will be released in 2-D … at regular ticket prices.” He later made another announcement that Nick Forst and Simon Pegg would be in the film. They both joined him on stage, but then it was revealed that neither will actually be in the film.

Bryan Lee O’Malley, the creator of the graphic novel on which the film is based, was the first guest introduced by Wright. As every group of “guests” after O’Malley was introduced, there was some incredible footage shown from the film. They didn’t give too much away about the film itself, but the stylized clips were incredibly fascinating to watch. Some of these guests included Academy Award nominee Anna Kendrick, Aubrey Plaza, Kieran Culkin, Allison Pill, Brandon Routh, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jason Schwartzman and Anna Long. Chris Evans wasn’t there because he is currently shooting Captain America. Last but not least of the guests was Michael Cera, who came out dressed in a Captain America outfit in honor of his missing castmate.

Cera was quick to answer when asked about his favorite part of filming. He said, “Um, I loved getting into excellent shape… I got in really good shape for the movie… I felt fantastic mentally and physically. It was a long time ago.” Unfortunately, he had no information on anything involving Arrested Development movie plans.

There was a special screening of the film held after the panel discussion for Con attendees who had a special "1+" button. The film looks to be a fun, frenzied comedy, as was evidenced by the guests who had fun and didn’t take anything too seriously.
