Cotillard and Gordon-Levitt “Dark Knight Rises” Roles Revealed

Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt have been linked to Christopher Nolan’s upcoming The Dark Knight Rises for months now, but it was never official nor were their parts known. Now, Warner Bros. has confirmed both actors will rejoin their Inception director in the upcoming project.

The press release states, “Cotillard will appear as Miranda Tate, a Wayne Enterprises board member eager to help a still-grieving Bruce Wayne resume his father’s philanthropic endeavors for Gotham. Gordon-Levitt will play John Blake, a Gotham City beat cop assigned to special duty under the command of Commissioner Gordon.”

Man alive were we all wrong. Cotillard had long been rumored to play Talia Al Ghoul, daughter to mentor turned villain Ra’s Al Ghoul (Liam Neeson) from Batman Begins. Still, with the way the Al Ghoul clan is at deception (Ra’s started the first film as “Henry Ducard”), could Cotillard still be Talia? It’s not entirely out of the question as a younger version of Ra’s (Josh Pence) is set to appear in flashback form. We still have to wait a long time to find out though.

Whereas Cotillard was rumored for only one specific role, Gordon-Levitt’s rumor mill went out of control with such characters as The Riddler, Robin and Alberto Falcone being dropped as possible roles for the versatile actor to take. A beat cop under the command of Commissioner Gordon means we’ll likely see plenty of scenes involving Gordon-Levitt hunting Batman.

Cotillard and Gordon-Levitt join series vets Christian Bale (Bruce Wayne/Batman) Michael Caine (Alfred), Morgan Freeman (Lucius Fox) Gary Oldman (Commissioner Gordon) as well as series newcomers Anne Hathaway (Selina Kyle/Catwoman) and Tom Hardy (Bane). The Dark Knight Rises is set to be released July 20th, 2012.
