Recently the CW announced that it would be producing a show based on the Archie Comics characters, titled Riverdale. Now the network has announced that newcomer Camila Mendes will be taking on the role of Veronica Lodge, according to Deadline.Veronica, who is described as intelligent, quick-witted and passionate, has returned to Riverdale after a stint in New York. She is now a sophomore and is anxious to push her father’s scandal in the past. Other Archie characters making their way to Riverdale include Archie (K.J. Apa), his father Fred Matthews (Luke Perry), Josie (Ashleigh Murray), Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch), Betty (Lili Reinhart) and Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse). Riverdale will be set in present time and will show a modern version of the well-known Archie characters and universe. The series will be about a group of teenagers growing up in a small town where secrets and scandal are abundant.The premiere date for Riverdale has yet to be announced.
