Danny Trejo confirms ‘Machete Kills In Space’
From being a supporting character in the family friendly
Spy Kids series to having his movies the Mexican police officer and assassin Isador 'Machete' Cortez has come a long way. A third movie was teased at the beginning of
Machete Kills,
Machete Kills Again... In Space and star Danny Trejo confirmed that the sequel is going to start filming later this year.
Trejo was speaking to
Halloween Daily News at Mad Monster Party in Charlotte, NC and is quoted saying:
"Robert and I are going to start to do Machete Kills in Space, so that's going to be awesome. Absolutely. We're going to be working on it this year"
The original
Machete movie series started off as spoof grindhouse trailer that was attached to the Quentin Tarantino/Robert Rodriguez double feature
Grindhouse. Robert Rodriguez co-wrote
the original movie with his cousin Álvaro Rodriguez and co-directed with editor Ethan Maniquis.
Machete was ultra-violent fan, making $44 Million from a $10.5 Million budget and earned a respectable 72% on Rotten Tomatoes.
However the sequel
Machete Kills did not match those highs, making only $10 Million from its $20 Million budget and has a 29% Rotten Tomatoes rating. Robert Rodriguez has also been a directional slump with his recent movies
Spy Kids: All the Time in the World and
Sin City: A Dame to Kill For like
Machete Kills were critically and commercially disappointments. But Robert Rodriguez knows how to make low budget action fare, so it would be foolish to dismiss him making
Machete Kills In Space.
