The good news is that Diablo III has a closed beta. The bad news is that if you're reading about it here instead of in an invitation in your e-mail, well... you aren't part of the beta.
The lucky bastards who did get an invite through their Battle.net accounts will have access to part of the game's first act, and can play as their choice of barbarian, demon hunter, monk, witch doctor, or wizard for solo or multiplayer adventures.
Mike Morhaime, cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment said "This closed beta test is an important milestone for us as we enter the final stages of development on Diablo III. Our goal is to create the best action role-playing game experience to date, building on everything we've learned since the release of Diablo II and incorporating the powerful features of the new Battle.net platform. We hope players enjoy participating in the beta test and we look forward to hearing their feedback."
Even though there are rumored console versions of the game, this beta is for PC only. If you didn't get in, don't worry, as there will most likely be more beta tests in the future as the game approaches its still un-revealed release date.
