“Die Hard 5” finds a writer

Yippee kai yay? According to The Hollywood Reporter's Risky Business blog, screenwriter Skip Woods will be penning a screenplay for the fifth installment of the classic Die Hard series. Alex Young, a former Fox executive, is set to produce.

There doesn't seem to be a story for the project as of yet, but taking Woods on as a writer is certainly interesting considering the critical acclaim of the series as a whole. Woods' writing filmography includes G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, HitmanSwordfish, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. These action films were all critically panned upon their initial release. However, Fox is probably more interested in the monetary aspect of this upcoming feature, considering how Live Free or Die Hard, the last film in the action franchise, made $378 million around the globe despite critics being mixed on the quality. There is no doubt that this next installment will be raking in the money for Fox, but Woods will have to prove himself. With John McClane as the central character to work with, there's reason to hope he could.
