Turn off the Lights

Discover ‘The Thing’ Movie Trailer

When the prequel to John Carpenter's The Thing moved from a release date this past April to October, the project seemed to fall off the map (perhaps to Antarctica?). Fortunately, Universal has melted the ice and given us a trailer in what's been a trailer-crazy week so far.

Although the plot is virtually the same as the 1982 classic, these events are based off the few details of the researchers briefly depicted in the beginning of that Kurt Russell-led film. Starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), Eric Christian Olsen (Beerfest, Eagle Eye) and Joel Edgerton (Star Wars Episode III, Animal Kingdom), the film tells the story of a team of Norwegian researchers that uncover a several-thousand-year-old life form frozen in Antarctica, one they soon learn has the power to disguise itself in the human form of its victims.

The Thing marks the theatrical film debut of director of Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. It arrives Oct. 14.
