Argo was one of the biggest movies of 2012 and is one of the major contenders at the Academy Awards this weekend. It has now been released on DVD and Blu-ray and contains many documentaries about the Iranian Hostage Crisis as well as a director’s commentary from Ben Affleck.

Argo has been a critical and box office hit and it is the movie dominating this year’s awards scene. It has won the Best Film and Best Director awards at the Golden Globes and BAFTA and is nominated for seven Oscars. But somehow Ben Affleck was not nominated for the Best Director award at the Oscars.

The year is 1979 and the Iranian Hostage Crisis has started with Iranian students overtaking the American embassy in Tehran. Six American embassy staff escape to the Canadian Ambassador’s (Victor Garber, Alias) home. As the CIA explore their options to get them out of the hostile nation they discover that usual cover stories are not viable options. One officer, Tony Mendez (Affleck) comes up with an extraordinary idea, pretend the Americans are all members of a Canadian film crew for a sci-fi movie. However, to make the cover work he has to go through the whole pre-production process.

Ellison Oswalt (Ethan Hawke) is a true crime writer who is struggling to write his next book. He moves his family to a new home where a horrific murder occurred, information Ellison keeps from them. Whilst researching for his book Ellison discovers some 16mm snuff films from the 1960s in the attic. This discovery ends up putting his whole family in danger.

In Russia in the late 19th Century Anna Karenina (Keira Knightley) is an aristocrat who married a senior Russian government minister, Alexi Karenin (Jude Law). But Anna risks her reputation in a scandal that rocks the upper echelons of Russian society when she embarks on having an affair with a young cavalry officer, Court Vronsky (Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Kick-Ass).

Wren (Victoria Justice, Victorious) is a typical suburban teenage who wants to go her crush’s Halloween Party. But her mom (Chelsea Handler) makes Wren babysit her eight-year-old brother. The teens lose him when they go out trick-and-treating and of course mayhem ensues.

In the new near future the global economy is on the edge of collapse with unemployment at 24% and gas costing $42 per gallon. Even worse, the world’s best creators, investors, industrialists and artists are disappearing. In the midst of this is Dagny Taggart (Samantha Mathis, Broken Arrow), a railroad executive who wants to solve the world’s energy crisis and discovers a prototype motor: but she needs to find the motor’s inventor to make it work.

After the events of Highlander Conner McCloud (Christopher Lambert) has won the prize. He uses that knowledge to save the world from an environmental crisis when the ozone layer disappears. But his actions turned the world into a dystopic dictatorship. Even worst, an enemy from Conner’s past, General Katana (Michael Ironside) goes on the hunt to kill him.

In the bright and colorful world of monsters is city of Monstropolis, the city powered by children’s screams. One of the best "scarers" is Sulley (John Goodman) and he is a massive celebrity in the monster’s world. But monsters themselves are actually scared of children and Sulley and his friend Mike (Billy Crystal) are thrown into a crisis when a two year old human girl joins them in their apartment.

To stop this threat the machines send a powerful cyborg assassin (Schwarzenegger) back to 1984 to kill the mother of the resistance leader, Sarah Conner (Linda Hamilton) before he is born. But the human rebels are able to send a protector, Kyle Reece (Michael Biehn).
