Faora, Not Ursa, Cast in “Man of Steel”

UPDATE: Variety now reports that Traue will play Faora, a woman who has various incarnations in the comics, but always as a foe of Superman. Variety suspects she'll be the original version of the character "as a Pokolistanian aide of General Zod. That character was an orphan metahuman with the ability to disrupt molecular bonds, which allowed her to create a mutagenic virus that served as the linchpin of Zod's plan."

With confirmation of General Zod (Michael Shannon) playing a part in Zack Snyder’s upcoming Man of Steel film, talk has begun that one of Zod’s main cohorts—Ursa— will make an appearance as well as per previous casting rumors. Now, Deadline is reporting that German actress Antje Traue (Pandorum) is a frontrunner for what the site reports is a “major” part.

Mind you, Ursa’s presence in Man of Steel is pure speculation at this point, as is the news that Traue is up for the part. Still, with Amy Adams cast as Lois Lane and the recent announcement of Zod (whom Snyder outright denied was in the film at first), it’s not a stretch to imagine the part Traue could play is Ursa, a deadly Krytonian who made her first appearance in the original 1978 film—appearing again in the sequel two years later.

With production set to begin in August and Warner Bros eagerness to bring greatness back to the “Superman” film franchise (or at least good word of mouth business), expect to hear more concrete news regarding Man of Steel soon.
