What seemed to first be an elaborate April Fool’s Day Prank has now turned out to be 100% true. Let's rewind. On April 1st, screenshots emerged from an unannounced title called Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon, seemingly upcoming DLC for last year's hit title Far Cry 3. However due to how completely different the game looked many assumed it was just a practical joke to coincide with April Fool's Day. After a logo and achievement list was leaked it became more and more likely to be real and now today we know that the game does in fact exist, but it’s not DLC.
Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon will be a standalone downloadable game that does not require a copy of Far Cry 3 to play. It will be coming on May 1st to XBLA, PSN, and PC. A teaser trailer has also been released that doesn't show much other than setting the tone of the game. The official synopsis reads:
"Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon is THE Kick-Ass Cyber Shooter taking place on a bizarre open-world island crawling with evil. Welcome to an 80's VHS vision of the future. The year is 2007 and you are Sergeant Rex Colt, a Mark IV Cyber Commando who's fighting against a cyborg army gone rogue. Your mission: get the girl, kill the baddies, and save the world. Experience every cliché of a VHS era vision of a nuclear future, where cyborgs, blood dragons, mutants, and Michael Biehn (Terminator, Aliens, Navy Seals) collide. Playing Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon doesn't require a copy of Far Cry 3."
Whilst it is not the dinosaur DLC everyone was crying out for it does seem very unique and different and is new Far Cry, which is most definitely a good thing.
