Square Enix have announced a direct sequel to Final Fantasy XIII, which will be arriving on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2011.
The game, called Final Fantasy XIII-2, is being made by the same team as Final Fantasy XIII, including the director Motomu Toriyama. The story is set in the same game world and will follow Lighting and some of the others from the original FFXIII story, while also including some new characters. The format is likely to be similar to what Square Enix previously did with Final Fantasy X-2 on the PS2.
The team behind the game are also said to be aiming to improve on the original by listening more to what type of game the fans really want. CVG extracted this quote from the developers: “Final Fantasy XIII-2 is currently in production with an aim for producing high quality game content which exceeds Final Fantasy XIII in every aspect; namely, a brand-new story which stems from the previous title as well as a battle system which has evolved further since XIII – and more,”
