First ‘Lone Ranger’ Pic Reveals Depp and Hammer
Hi-yo, Lone Ranger! Producer extraordinaire Jerry Bruckheimer has tweeted the first still for the upcoming Lone Ranger film adaptation. Featuring star Armie Hammer as the masked cowboy John Reid and Johnny Depp as his sidekick, Tonto, the pic is mostly a mood setter and a first peek at the wardrobe.
Hammer looks the part, though that's largely thanks to a costume that doesn't stray too far from the original. And Depp appears well within his element sporting heavy makeup and a crow chapeau. At this rate, Lone Ranger director Gore Verbinski will supplant Tim Burton as Johnny Depp’s most trusted source for absurd fashion advice.
Any glimpse here is none too shabby considering the project was shelved less than eight months ago due to budget concerns, some of which stemmed from the middling success of Cowboys & Aliens last summer. The picture at least confirms that filming has in fact begun.
Lone Ranger was written by "Pirates of the Caribbean" scribes Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio and boasts a superb cast, including Tom Wilkinson and Helena Bonham Carter. A May 31, 2013 release date is expected.
