Many were skeptical when news arrived of Pete Travis' Dredd, the upcoming adaptation of the famous Judge Dredd comic. After a botched, Razzie Award-winning adaptation in the 1990s starring Sylvester Stallone, the property has become the subject of much ridicule.
However, it looks like everything with this one is going quite swimmingly so far, as a rather impressive cast has aligned for the new take, which includes Karl Urban as the titular protagonist, Lena Headey (300), and Olivia Thirlby (Juno).
Now we finally get our first official look at Urban in his Judge Dredd garb, courtesy of Bleeding Cool, and while there are still some concerns over the film, it might be unnecessary to worry about Dredd after all. The film doesn't have a release date just yet, but let's hope for them squeezing it in next summer, as another time of the year might not make for a strong box office showing and be an indicator that Lionsgate lacks confidence in the finished product. However, the summer's pretty stacked. April or October seem to be the least crowded months on the 2012 calendar for action films.
So, is there's any reason to dread Dredd?
