‘Furious 7’ Director to Tackle ‘Aquaman’

"James Wan is set to dive into the latest comic book adaptation"
Director James Wan is experiencing a bit of success lately, as his current directorial effort, Furious 7, has grossed a massive $1.5 billion at the worldwide box office, which is a franchise best for the ongoing series. Much of that success can be attributed to the film paying tribute to late actor Paul Walker, but the movie was also met with mostly positive reviews from critics. Now that Wan has another win under his belt, he also directed the horror hit The Conjuring, he will be switching gears for his next project.

According to Variety, James Wan is set to direct Aquaman for Warner Bros. The studio also released the first plot summary for the film, which follows Aquaman (played by Jason Momoa from HBO's Game of Thrones), the King of the Seven Seas and the reluctant ruler of Atlantis, who is caught between a surface world constantly ravaging the sea and Atlanteans looking to lash out in revolt, but is committed to protecting earth. Currently set for a 2018 release, the film is based on characters appearing in comic books published by DC Entertainment. Wan’s hire is the latest development for WB’s expanding superhero franchise centered around members of the Justice League, following news that Chris Pine is close to a deal to co-star with Gal Gadot in the Wonder Woman film.
