Futurama Renewal on the Horizon?

Good news everyone! According to actress Katey Sagal, Futurama may have just been renewed for another season. While on the red carpet at the DGA Awards, Sagal, the voice of Leela on the show, is quoted as confirming the return of the popular sci-fi animated comedy. ‘I don’t know if I’m supposed to say that yet,’ she adds in an interview with Vulture.

Despite the fact that season 6 has not yet aired to completion, this semi-confirmation isn’t a surprise. Considering both how long animation takes to create, and also how popular Futurama was when it returned earlier in 2010, producer’s seem somewhat interested in having more Futurama to air. This would mean that contracts would have to be written up to ensure all of the original voice actors return for another season. While this isn’t an official renewal statement, and thus should be taken with a grain of salt, the idea of more Futurama is exciting to many viewers who were sad to see the show go back in 2003.

When Futurama aired on Comedy Central in 2010, the network enjoyed its highest-rated night in 2010 and its highest-rated Thursday primetime ever. The second half of the 6th season is scheduled to air later in 2011 on Comedy Central.
