Guess what: Activision would love to cash in on not only a remake/re-imagining of GoldenEye on the Wii, but also on the 3DS. Activision's Julian Widdows was quoted saying "...I think we would all love to think that GoldenEye may make it on to the 3DS... But there are no plans yet."
In other words, they want to make more money from people who want an outdated game on new consoles. Look, I loved GoldenEye and it was a ton of fun back in the day. Let’s be honest with ourselves though: how many of you actually have played GoldenEye in the past year and thought it has aged well? Can't imagine too many people disagree. It was a fun FPS back in the day, but, by today’s standards, it’s just not nearly as fun as it used to. Old mechanics such as auto aim, a clunky damage system, and ugly graphics don’t make a fun game today. Sure, there will be modern fixes to all of the things that didn't age well, but it's going to be on the Wii, a system still trying to prove that FPSs work well with waggle. Anyways, I'm sure good old uncle Activision will make it great. They’re definitely not trying to cash in on nostalgia. Not at all. They just want to rehash an old classic and change it around so that it’s really not the same game when it’s finished. It’s kind of like the band Smashing Pumpkins. Sure, one of the original members may be leading the band, but it’s just not the same at all. Still, let’s be optimistic here. I’m sure Activision knows what they’re doing and the game could turn out to be fun. Having said that, I’m not going to hold my breath.
Well all of you obviously know my not-so-hidden feelings on this. How do you all feel? Perhaps I am wrong in your eyes?
