Halo 4 Makes $220 Million on Launch

Somewhere, someone at Microsoft is smiling. Today it was announced that Halo 4 sales reached an impressive $220 million in just its first day at retail. This beats all the previous entries in the franchise and is one of the biggest entertainment launches of the year. The game is on course to reach the $300 million mark in just it's first week on sale. Exact numbers of copies sold is unknown at this time and these numbers include other Halo products such as the limited edition Halo 4 Xbox 360 console.

The previous game is the series, Halo Reach made an impressive $200 million on its first day and the franchise overall has made a staggering $3.38 billion to date. Not too bad at all.

Halo 4 is Microsoft's biggest game this fall and they will be delighted with the numbers shown so far. It will be interesting to see how well Call of Duty: Black Ops II does, which launches tomorrow (November 13th). It's safe to assume these two games will be the biggest selling of 2012 overall, even having only two months on the market.

Halo 4 is developed by 343 Industries and published by Microsoft Studios. The game is out now and available exclusively on Xbox 360.
