2K Sports announced earlier this week, that Michael Jordan would be the cover athlete for the next installment in the NBA2K series. 2K has been attempting to sign Jordan as their cover athlete for close to 5 years now, and finally came to terms with him this year. For those living under a rock or inside a cave for the last 30 years. Jordan is widely considered the greatest professional athlete to ever exist. I have to admit, I was giddy as a school girl upon hearing this news. Jordan is without a doubt the foundation for all athletes today.
My personal hope is that this puts the pressure on 2K Sports to up the bar, since the genre has stagnated for the last 5 years. With someone so beloved on the cover, it would be a great injustice for this to be another year of minor updates and bugs that have to be patched out. Perhaps the MyPlayer mentor is replaced by Jordan, that would be the fullfillment of many people’s life-long dream. You can check out the official announcement here.
NBA 2K11 is slated for an October 5th, 2010 release for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PSP, Wii, and PC.
