Honest Abe Takes on Vamps in New ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’ Images

The first still for Timur Bekmambetov’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter looked like it had been stolen from the Lincoln biopic Steven Spielberg is working on, but the newest batch should make it clear Bekmambetov’s (Wanted) film is probably the one with vampires in it. We get to see Benjamin Walker as the Great Emancipator, taking the axe to (or attempting anyway) an undead posse. Check out all the photos below.

Based on the best-selling satire from author Seth Grahame-Smith (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies), “AL:VH” is a retelling of the 16th president’s life, but with the addition of vampires. This early scene finds Lincoln in Louisiana, on a mission to save friend William Johnson (Anthony Mackie) from a band of thirsty bloodsuckers.

“You get sort of the greatest hits of Lincoln’s life,” Walker told EW, “from the death of his mother through the Gettysburg address... you get a portrait of this man, as well as a thriller.”

Mary Elizabeth Winstead stars opposite Walker as wife Mary Todd Lincoln, and Firefly’s Alan Tudyk will play one of Lincoln’s day-walking opponents, politician Stephan A. Douglas. Rufus Sewell and Dominic Cooper also star.

The film is set for release June 22.
