iFest Indie Games Festival Set for Sunday

Indie Games are all the rage these days. From the hardcore technical platforming of Super Meat Boy to the chaotic magical shenanigans of Magicka. Modern indie games developers have brought numerous hit games to the modern gamers and it always interesting to learn about how and why they make the unique games they do.

iFest is an independent games festival that is happening in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra this month. The Canberra event happened on the 2nd, but the Sydney event will be happening this weekend on the 10th, while the Melbourne iFest is set for the 16th April.

There will be guest speakers from numerous Australian Developers such as Michael Dobele, Phil Larsen and Luke Muscat from Halfbrick (Creators of Fruit Ninja).  Also on hand will be Andrew James and Ed Orman from Uppercut games, as well as Sash MacKinnon, the winner of the 2010 Sydney Game Jam.  There will also be representatives from the numerous private colleges that teach Games Development across Australia who will be running workshops for people looking at getting into Indie Games Development.

iFest will also feature a Indie Games Competition and at the conclusion of the day they will showcase the best entries.  Player Affinity will be covering the event and you can expect more about what happened at the Sydney event early next week.  Additional information about the festival can be found at their website.
