Is Ms. Marvel Being Cast for ‘The Avengers 2’?

We've been hearing a lot of casting news about the films leading up to The Avengers 2, but little about the film itself — until now. UK publication The Daily Mail reports that Marvel Studios is looking to cast Ms. Marvel in the nothing-short-of-huge sequel to this summer's biggest hit and that two British actresses are in the running for the role: Emily Blunt and Ruth Wilson.

Ms. Marvel — or Captain Marvel as she is known in today's comics — has had numerous stints with The Avengers since hitting the pages of Marvel Comics in 1968. Real name Carol Danvers, she became part human and part Kree and donned the name of Ms. Marvel officially in 1977 when she received her own comic

It should be noted that it's hard to say whether this news has any real credibility given the source and the manner of reporting, but it's worth keeping an eye on.

Blunt, who stars in Looper, has slowly built enough of a resume to be universally recognizable and even nearly played Peggy Carter in Captain America: The First Avenger, while British television actress Wilson has some upcoming credits that will put her on the map, in particular the leading lady role in Disney's The Lone Ranger.
