‘J. Edgar’ Trailer Kicks Off Oscar Season

This year’s run of high-profile film festivals has ended, and unfortunately, we learned little from it. There was The Artist, a black-and-white Silent Era throwback, but we picked up on that at Cannes. Now a contender that stayed away from the fests is trying to enter the ring.

Luckily, a trailer for Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar just debuted. Leonardo DiCaprio, as titular FBI director J. Edgar Hoover, appears in top form, nailing his line deliveries with an impeccable accent and carrying himself in a meticulously calculated manner. It’s still a long road to the Kodak, but it’s not difficult to imagine him winning the Best Actor trophy on Oscar night already.

We also get a good look at Armie Hammer, playing the man rumored to be Hoover’s lover. From what we see here, it’s a stark departure from what he did in The Social Network, so this’ll clue us in on how far his acting ability can stretch. The film also stars Dame Judi Dench and Naomi Watts.

Assuming that you aren’t under the threat of Hoover’s wiretapping, check out the trailer below.
