Jamie Foxx is Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Django’

Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained quickly emerged as one of the most anticipated films of the next several years when the project was officially announced. However, there were several ideas flying around about who’d play the title character, a freed slave attempting to save his family from a treacherous ranch owner with the help of a German bounty hunter.

After a slew of casting updates and rumors, it looks like Tarantino has finally found his Django in Jamie Foxx. Deadline Hollywood reports that the Oscar-winning actor will soon negotiate to play the titular role in the Sergio Leone-esque Western. Leonardo DiCaprio and Christoph Waltz earlier signed on to star as the ranch owner and bounty hunter, respectively; Samuel L. Jackson is currently expected to star as the ranch owner’s valet, Stephen.

Foxx seems like a perfect choice for this kind of role, as he’s gifted with both comedic and dramatic acting. He should be able to bring some much needed charisma and tongue-in-cheek wit to this role, and while we’re at it, he seems like a much more natural fit for Tarantino than Will Smith, who was previously rumored to play Django.

What are your thoughts on the core cast Tarantino has assembled for his next run at an Oscar?
