Jennifer Lawrence to play Mystique in “First Class”

Jennifer Lawrence is set to play the mysterious Mystique in Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming film X-Men: First ClassDeadline brings the news of this talent-based casting decision. Mystique is a shape-shifter but cannot take on the superpowers of others. Fox has been on quite a casting spree recently, as cast updates have seemingly happened by the minute.

Lawrence gave an incredibly promising performance in Guillermo Arriaga’s The Burning Plain alongside Academy Award winner Charlize Theron and has received rave reviews and Oscar buzz for her leading performance in Debra Granik’s indie drama Winter’s Bone.

Lawrence will get the role once rumored to belong to blond beauty Amber Heard, but she's clearly a better choice in terms of talent. Lawrence not only bolsters the credibility of the film’s cast, which already includes Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, and James McAvoy among others, but it also bodes well for the film itself. The young actress is becoming known for playing her cards well in terms of her career and where it goes, so it isn’t likely that she would lend her talents to a film that wasn’t worthy of them.

Lawrence will star alongside Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster in the comedy-drama The Beaver later this year. X-Men: First Class is expected to shoot in London later this year.
