Jordan Peele Will Be Tackling Issues of Race Through Horror
Jordan Peele is no stranger to tackling issues of race in America, most predominantly through comedy on the hit sketch comedy show
Key & Peele. Now it seems that he will be taking it on from the angle of horror with the upcoming film
Get Out, produced by Blumhouse and QC Entertainment, which Peele will write and direct.
“People know me for my work in comedy, but now I’ll get to focus on my passion for writing and directing horror films. Like comedy, horror has an ability to provoke thought and further the conversation on real social issues in a very powerful way,” Peele said. “
Get Out takes on the task of exploring race in America, something that hasn’t really been done within the genre since
Night of the Living Dead 47 years ago. It’s long overdue.”
While Peele has plenty of experience writing, having scribed both
Key & Peel and episodes of
MADtv,
Get Out will be his first foray into both feature films, drama and will be his directorial debut. It will be interesting to see how his incisive tone and cutting wit will translate from comedy to horror.
