Kerry Washington Might Star in Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Django Unchained’

At long last, Quentin Tarantino cast Jamie Foxx for the title role in his Sergio Leone-inspired Western Django Unchained. Even though that’s the most crucial role in the film, there are still some characters that don’t have actors attached just yet, including that of Django’s lover, Broomhilda.

Kerry Washington, who starred with Foxx in Taylor Hackford’s Ray Charles biopic Ray, has already talked to Tarantino about tackling that role. Variety reports that she is among “a handful” of actresses, however, contending for that part. We don’t know who these other actresses are, but given that Washington’s name is the only one to surface thus far, she’s probably ahead of the pack.

Washington has proven herself as a more than capable actress on the silver screen time and time again and was able to hold her own opposite Foxx’s Oscar-winning performance in Ray. She most recently lent her talents to the stellar ensemble cast of Tyler Perry’s For Colored Girls. It’ll be interesting to see which other names pop up, but you won’t see me complaining if and when Washington makes negotiations to star in “Django.”
