Kevin Costner to Train Slaves in ‘Django Unchained’

Quentin Tarantino’s next flick, the Deep South-set Western Django Unchained, has aligned an ensemble including Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio, Samuel L. Jackson, and Christoph Waltz. Another A-list actor has signed on to star, and it’s definitely not someone you’d expect for this particular role, let alone any Tarantino film.

Kevin Costner is currently negotiating to play a villainous character in the feature named Ace Woody. According to Deadline Hollywood, Ace trains the male slaves who fight against one another for the entertainment of white spectators.

It’s tempting to write this off as an awful casting decision because Costner made a name for himself by playing mostly noble – or at least not morally corrupt – characters. Then again, John Travolta’s role in Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction isn’t really synonymous with the actor’s other performances, and look how amazing that turned out, Oscar nomination and all.
