PAX Prime 2010 wraps up with a playable build of Killzone 3’s multiplayer. Little was shown regarding job classes and ranks, but there were a few interesting nuggets to be found. First, the pre-battle menu interface has been streamlined considerably. The screen contains a list of player variables you can adjust along the left side of the screen while the right side contains pictures of weapons you are using along with a brief synopsis of weaponry and abilities. The list appears as the following:
The first three items are fairly self-explanatory, but the next three have some exciting potential. “Explosives” allows you to choose which kind of grenade to bring into battle. Killzone 2 only allowed for one type of grenade so this opens the door for a greater range of explosives which may include land mines, EMPs, incendiary, smoke etc. The “Skill” option allows you to pick an augmentation; these include extra health, extra ammo and extra primary weapon. Extra health raises your base health; extra ammo increases your base ammunition for your primary weapon as well as an increase in ammo from pick-ups. Extra primary lets you sub your secondary weapon for an additional primary weapon. And finally, “Unlocks” is mysteriously left at the bottom of the list. Across from “Unlocks” is something called “Unlock Points”. This suggests that some kind of shop where points earned during matches can be used to purchase something a little extra. What exactly you can buy with said points could be anything from additional weapons to perks to cosmetic alterations. We may have to wait a bit longer before this shop is revealed. Hopefully we won’t have to wait until the game’s release on February 22, 2011 to find out.
