Lil’ Gotham Announced

Writer/Artist Dustin Nguyen (Batman Beyond Unlimited) alongside co-writer Derek Fridolfs (Batman: Arkham Unhinged) have just been announced to be working on an all new digital first comic featuring the classic Batman cast - Lil' Gotham. Lil' Gotham is to released monthly with each installment commemorating a certain holiday of the month.

“This has been a passion project of mine for some time now, and for anyone that’s followed my work, I’m sure it’s more of an ‘its about time!’ explained Dustin Nguyen. “The look and style is a slight departure from my usual (think the exact opposite of serious), but the idea has always been the same—to take our favorite existing Gotham characters, place them in fun scenarios without having to be tied to just one continuity or look and feel. It’s basically a Batman book for fans, by two huge fans.”

This is set to be a light-hearted take on the Dark Knight, which has been done quite a few times before and is a type of interpretation that is always welcomed by many fans. The promotional art that was released alongside this announcement (seen below) was met with mainly positive response. Something else that fans might take notice of is the inclusion of the heavily "controversial" Cassandra Cain and Stephanie Brown characters in that image. While their involvement has not been confirmed outright it does set down how not "tied to continuity" this project is.

The premise of this series also allows for a lot of fun to be had as editor Sara Gaydos puts it. “Tying each story to that month's holiday gives us a really fun opportunity to play with the themes and traditions of each holiday,” she said. “Dustin and Derek bring something special to each and every page. There are SO many ‘Easter eggs,’ so make sure to keep your eyes peeled!”

Lil' Gotham kicks off tomorrow, October 31, 2012, with an appropriately Halloween themed installment.
