Martin Freeman Gears Up for ‘Captain America: Civil War’

"The British actor joins the cast of the highly-anticipated sequel"
British actor Martin Freeman has made a name for himself playing Bilbo Baggins in the Hobbit trilogy, which wrapped up its final installment, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, last December. Combined, the trilogy has grossed almost $3 billion worldwide. With the popularity of the movies, it appears Freeman has been given quite the spotlight.

Now, it looks as though the actor will join another high-profile franchise. According to Variety, Freeman has joined the cast of Captain America: Civil War. The movie is expected to feature an epic battle between Captain America and Iron Man. Marvel released the news on its website, but did not give any specifics about what role Freeman would assume. He joins the cast, which includes returning Marvel heroes Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Anthony Mackie as Falcon, and Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow. The Russo Brothers (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) will return to direct. The new movie will be seen as a partial Avengers reunion, with so many members appearing. This does not come as a surprise considering the massive opening weekend gross of Avengers: Age of Ultron, which scored $191.2 million domestically, making it the second biggest opening weekend of all-time, behind only the original Avengers ($207.4 million). Captain America: Civil War lands in theaters ready for battle on May 6, 2016.
