Marvel Considering Hawkeye, Black Widow Spin-Offs

With Marvel’s Thor kicking off the U.S. summer season, Kevin Feige—the leader of Marvel Studios—has started alluding to potential projects being shopped around the Marvel offices. In talking with IndieWire, Feige notes that the 2013-2014 schedule should be revealed towards the end of summer and that a Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and/or Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) spinoff is not out of the question.

In regards to the potential spinoffs, Feige states, “There’s no definitive plans, but we have started talking and talking with Scarlett about what a ‘Widow’ movie could be…we’ve also started thinking what a ‘Hawkeye’ movie could be, how we could continue to explore the [S.H.I.E.L.D.] organization.”

Talk of a “Widow” spinoff has been circling since Iron Man 2 while Renner’s star has risen in a big way the last few months. Given *Worst kept spoiler in Hollywood right now, turn back now if you don’t want to know* Hawkeye’s involvement (in some capacity) in the upcoming Thor film, not to mention considerable material to take from his comic roots, it’s no surprise Marvel could be sniffing around for a means to turn Hawkeye into his own franchise. His reception in Thor and The Avengers should help Marvel to make a more definitive decision, but maybe this summer’s Comic-Con can provide some more definitive answers.
