Microsoft To Ditch Microsoft Points

If the rumors are true, buying something on Xbox Live could get a lot simpler. According to Inside Mobile Apps, by the end of this year, Microsoft Points will be ditched and replaced with real money. Along with Xbox Live, the change would also apply to Windows Phone and Zune marketplaces. Any outstanding balances a user might have would be converted into real money.

While Microsoft has declined to comment, mobile developers are reportedly being warned to plan their upcoming DLC with the change in mind.   The move to real money would make sense, seeing that Playstation Network and Steam users have been using real cash for years. It would also remove a lot of confusion – no one knows off the top of their head how much 4000 Microsoft Points is in real money.
