NBC Orders Pilot for DC Universe Comedy Powerless

In a sometimes overwhelming sea of standard superhero fare, we might be getting a look at how the other half live with NBC’s Powerless. [caption id="attachment_78936" align="alignnone" width="1080"]The Flash, Batman, Joker, Superman (Workplace) Not quite. (Image via AskMen.)[/caption] THR reports that NBC has ordered a pilot episode of Powerless, “an office comedy about the exceedingly average employees at an insurance company and their quest to find their own power.” The series will take place in the DC Comics universe, but the extent to which iconic characters like Wonder Woman, who has her own movie in production, or Green Arrow, who has his own TV series, will appear or be referenced is unknown. As the show is a comedy, it will be cool to see how they adapt classic DC characters (particularly villains) to fit the tone of the project. Perhaps the show will take its cues from Batman: The Brave and the Bold, The Incredibles, or the short-lived live-action series The Tick? Regardless of where they take inspiration from, the series will likely be a hard sell. It doesn’t have the in-built episodic formula of its “counterpart series” Damage Control, which centers on a cleaning crew in the Marvel universe that deals with the “unique fallout from super hero conflicts,” but this could end up making the series refreshingly unpredictable. Powerless will be written by Ben Queen (Cars 2, A to Z) and executive produced by Michael Patrick Jann (who is also directing the pilot). Featured image edited from iFanboy.
