New The Flash Season 2 Promo Teases Blue Lightning

"What could this mean for Barry Allen?"
Are even more changes coming to season 2 of The CW's The Flash? A new promo featuring Barry Allen running with a blue lightning trail suggests this might be the case. Check out the video from FOX8. As fans may recall, Flash in season 1 ran with a yellow lightning trail, a contrast to the red lightning that followed the Reverse-Flash. But as you can see in the video, not only do arcs of blue lightning jump around Barry’s eye, his usual yellow lightning trail is instead completely blue. (Image via Comic Book.)[/caption] It could be that Barry acquired the blue lightning while racing to close the black hole in The Flash’s season finale. Or the change in aesthetics might be something that occurs during the course of the season. With the already announced inclusion of Jay Garrick, Jesse Quick, Wally West, and Zoom, in addition to alternate timelines and worlds, answers at this point seem unlikely. However, the color seems like a direct reference to the version of The Flash seen in the comics recently, a future Barry Allen who travels to the past and comes into conflict with his younger self. Given the show’s recent disposal of the time-traveling Eobard Thawne, this probably won’t happen any time soon, but it’s impressive to see how much the showrunners are drawing from the comics to craft The Flash’s sophomore season. The promo gives no indication of what the blue lightning might mean, but it could anticipate a faster Barry Allen this time around. Perhaps the new color comes with an entirely new ability. Whatever it does, Barry will definitely need it for the new threats he’ll be facing. Season 2 of The Flash, which will take place six months after the events of the Season 1 finale, premieres October 6.
