A group claiming to be the PR team for the Batman FPS game Gotham City Imposters has sent out a press release regarding release dates and the upcoming open beta. We'll take the statement at face value for now, although these individuals could be using some sort of false identity...
If these people are who they say they are, Impostors will hit open beta on December 11th 2011, then launch for all major platforms a month later on January 10th 2012. While the game is also coming out for PC, this beta is only for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
Gotham City Impostors is an odd take on the Batman franchise, and puts players in the role of vigilantes and criminals who style themselves after the Bat Family and the Joker's gang. Gameplay is head-to-head multiplayer using a combination of traditional shooter firearms with Bat Gadgets and Clown gizmos.
It's developed by Monolith, who have made excellent and unusual shooters like Blood, F.E.A.R. and No One Lives Forever, so despite the strange premise, Gotham City Impostors is in good hands.
Even though htis is an Open Beta, there are limited slots available, so Batfans should head over to the game's website and sign up ASAP.
